Alice DIAZ

Alice Diaz, a resident of Sonoma for over 58 years passed away on Thursday morning, December 27, 2012. She was 93 years old. Alice was born in El Cerrito, CA and one of four children, one being her twin. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Irene Kayser, known as "Her Jewels". She was also preceded in death by her husband John Diaz in 1999, her three sisters, Kate, Mary, her twin Aileen and her granddaughter Amanda Chatigny. Alice married John Diaz in 1940 and had six children: Anna Detrick of Sonoma, John Diaz (Linda) of Truth or Consequences, NM, Kathleen Jones of Aptos, James Diaz (Karin) of Vacaville, Mary Keegan (Timothy)of Burke, VA, and Rev. Thomas Diaz of Santa Rosa. She is survived by ten grandchildren; Mary Piccione (Michael) of Manassas, VA, Timothy Keegan of Alexandria VA, Anna Sengstack (Eric) of Fairfax, VA, James Keegan (Nancy) of San Diego, Sean Meehan and Michelle Rood of Watsonville, Tracy Rapplin of Mill Valley, Maria Diaz (Glenn) of Albuquerque, NM, Laurea Diaz (Jason) of Austin, TX, and Janet Diaz of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by six great grandchildren: Alexander Piccione, Benjamin Piccione, Alice Sengstack, Amanika Rapplin, and Johnathan, Justin, and MaKayla Diaz- Rank of Las Cruces, NM. Alice had a strong faith in God and made sure along with her husband that all six children went to Catholic Schools. She went to mass every day at St. Francis Solano and when asked how she was she always said, "I am just dandy." She loved to travel in her later years and had been to Europe, Puerto Rico, and destinations across the United States. She loved to garden and did so until she could no longer kneel. As here mobility and health became worse she appreciated the weekly visits by an Extra Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist to bring her Holy Communion from St Francis Solano Church. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to St Francis Solano School, 342 West Napa Rd Sonoma, CA 95476 or to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939 A Rosary will be prayed at St Francis Solano Church on Sunday, Jan 6th at 5:00 p.m. and a funeral Mass will be celebrated at her son's parish of Holy Spirit in Santa Rosa on Monday, Jan 7th at 10:30 a.m. A private interment will take place later in the day at St Francis Solano Cemetery in Sonoma.
