Ben Edward McCUTCHAN Sr.

Peacefully passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 in Santa Rosa, CA at the age of 85. Ben was a lifetime native of Healdsburg California. He was the beloved son of William Alfred McCutchan and Emily Ann Segesman and stepmother, Elizabeth (Young) McCutchan. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara L. McCutchan, children Edward McCutchan (Sue), Nancy McCutchan, Harold (Hal) McCutchan (Gina) and grandchildren Tristan, Brittany and Ella Ruth. Adored brother of Bill McCutchan (Dorothy) and Thomas McCutchan (Doryce) and stepbrothers James Young and Milton Young and many nieces and nephews. Ben had a love for animals which includes his dogs, Noelle, Ginger, Berri and cat Hero. Ben, a 1945 graduate of Healdsburg High School, a veteran of the US Army during World War II and a 1951 graduate of the University of California, Davis. He was a long time rancher in Healdsburg /Geyserville and was a 50-year member of the Healdsburg Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows Lodge, Sons of the American Revolution, Seniors in Retirement, American Legion, Alexander Valley Farm Bureau, Russian River Property Owners Association and the Alexander Valley Grape Growers Association. Some of Ben`s passions were square dancing, watching his favorite Cal Bear football and NCAA basketball, fishing, studying history, researching family genealogy and his conversations with his friends and family. Ben was truly a gentleman with a heart of gold, a selfless man with the highest principles, honesty, respect and love for others and this country. His life is a reminder of how kindness, openness and honesty to others are virtues that are everlasting. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Memorial Hospice, 821 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa 95401. Services will be held at the St. Paul`s Church, 209 Matheson Street, Healdsburg CA. on Saturday, November 17th at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow.
