Passed from this earth June 19, 2013. Born in San Francisco, August 31, 1918. Age 94. Son of John Kolsters and Selma Amanda Anderson. Bob was among the first generation of Kolsters born in America, his father having emigrated from the Netherlands. At the age of two the family moved to Jordan Road in Oakland where he grew up and spent his life. Following his service in the U.S. Navy he used his GI benefits to get his commercial pilots license. He quickly found himself flying for TWA transporting troops during the Korean War. Soon he returned to the tool and die business, founding Kolsters Tool & Die Company in Oakland, California with his brother, Ben. An avid pilot, Bob served as Captain of the Alameda County Sheriff Air Squadron. He was also a member of the Ukiah Sheriff's Air Squadron and Ukiah Elks club. After retiring, Bob and his wife, Cola, had a rich, diverse retirement traveling the world: Panama Canal, Jerusalem, Netherlands, South Africa, China as well as motor homing to Alaska and Mexico. His interests included competitive target shooting, rock collecting and gold panning, abalone diving, and socializing with friends. He is survived by his wife Cola, daughter Nancy Maliszewski, son Robert Kolsters, and daughter Linda Fisher; four grandchildren: Marc Kolsters, Peter Maliszewski, Daniel Maliszewski,and Sarah Reyes; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two brothers, John Kolsters and Ben Kolsters, and his daughter Linda Knox. Services will be held on Saturday June 29, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Merrill Gardens, 4855 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park. Private inurnment, Russian River Cemetery, Ukiah, CA.
