Charles Edward WINNER

95, passed away Monday October 29, 2012 at the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Winner; his sons, Chuck Winner and James Winner; his daughters Charlene Winner and Sandra Wilson; his brother Clark Winner; his sister Pat Galloway; three grandchildren, Cristina Wilson-Hudlin, Michelle Wilson Bien, and Alex Wilson; one great grand child, Chloe Adeline Wilson, and many close friends. Predeceased by brothers Eugene Winner, and Gilbert Winner; and his sister Hazel Elizabeth Pelegrin. Born and raised in Lebanon, Ohio, the son of Charles Guy and Ruby (UnderHill) Winner. In his early years, Mr. Winner worked at The Stevens Hotel in Chicago Illinois were he met the love of his life, wife Dorothy. They married in 1942 in Tacoma, Washington. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Army where he became a sergeant in the 40th Infantry Division and was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. After serving with the US Army, Mr. Winner had the opportunity to join the United States Postal Service in San Jose, CA were he quickly became a supervisor as well as a public relations speaker. He not only took pride in his work but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. Over the years, Charles picked up an interest in golfing, hiking, and camping. His favorite hikes were the John Muir Trail and the Pacific Coast Trail, which he hiked both alone. Mr. Winner was an avid sports fan and LOVED the 49ers and The Giants. "Death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely." A funeral service was held Friday, November 2, 2012 at Parent Sorenson Funeral Home of Petaluma, with private burial.
