Dr. Creed WOOD M.D.

Passed away on February 3rd, 2014 at the age of 71. Creed had an enigmatic personality that lit up a room with his wonderful sense of humor, wit, kind heart, and sincere caring for people. He loved a good joke and always made a point of having a fresh one on hand for his weekly golfing ritual with good friends. Creed was an avid historian with a particular fondness for the Civil War era. His ability to recall names, dates, and detailed events was astounding. Creed was a beloved and respected member of St. Vincent Catholic Church in Petaluma. He was a regular volunteer and involved in a number of groups including the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Rotary Club of Santa Rosa. Traveling was a great passion of his and throughout his life he visited far reaches of the world with family or attending Rotary International Conventions. Creed loved watching his grandchildren play sports and taking them to A's and Giants games. He enjoyed fishing and golfing, as well as attending spring training in Arizona. He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to Creed and Marjorie Wood on August 2, 1942. Creed was raised in Pomona, California, where he graduated from Ganesha High School in 1960 and from Pomona College in 1964. He graduated from Yale School of Medicine in 1968 and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at U.C. San Francisco in 1975. Creed proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Corps and later for the U.S Air Force National Reserves. For over 33 years, Dr. Wood cared for thousands of patients in Seattle, Petaluma and San Rafael. Creed was predeceased by his son Christopher. He is survived by his son Jonathan of Sacramento, his daughter Catherine of Los Angeles, his three grandchildren Kathryn, David, and Brielle Wood, his daughter-in-law Kelly Wood Jenkins, his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Elene Wood of Laguna Niguel, his nephews Taylor and Sean Wood, and by his former wife and mother of his children Andrée Langlois of Petaluma. A memorial mass will be celebrated in his memory on Friday, February 21st at 11 a.m. , at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 35 Liberty Street in Petaluma.
