Daniel Laurence LOGUE

Daniel Laurence Logue, born July 15, 1931 in Turlock CA to Ruth Hazel Kern and William Brian Logue. Passed away peacefully on March 30, 2013 at the age of 81. Well known for his sense of humor and patriarch of one of the first families to settle in Rohnert Park, Dan was preceded in death by Betty Logue his loving wife of 56 years. Dan leaves behind four children: son Terry Logue (Fran) of Rohnert Park; son Kevin Logue (Sue) of Fair Oaks, CA; daughter Kathleen Beltz (Ralph) of Rohnert Park; and son Tom Logue (Margaret) of Santa Rosa. He also leaves behind sister Rose Hand of Santa Barbara, CA. Dan was also a loving "Poppy" to fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Dan moved with his family from Delhi, CA to Sebastopol in 1943 where he went on to excel on the football and track & field teams at Analy High. After graduating from Analy in 1949, Dan went on to Santa Rosa Junior College where he played defensive tackle on the dominant 1949 and 1950 Bear Cub football teams. While at SRJC he was the sports editor for the school's Oakleaf newspaper writing under the pen-name "Grantland" Logue. He continued his education at the University of Nevada-Reno and continued to play football. After one year Nevada dropped football prompting Dan to enlist for a short stint in the U.S. Navy from 1951-53. Following his honorable discharge Dan went on to finish his studies at San Francisco State. While living in San Francisco Dan met Betty Garrett. They married in 1956 and settled in Rohnert Park in 1960. Dan was foreman for Codding Construction, then in 1973 was hired as a building inspector by the City of Rohnert Park where he eventually rose to Chief of the Building Department. He retired in 1994 after 21 years of service. Dan helped found the first youth football program in the area. As a program administrator and head coach of the midget division College View/Rancho Cotati Pop Warner teams from 1962 through 1982, Dan had a positive influence on countless young men who went through the program. Dan was a lifelong 49ers and Giants fan and more than anything loved traveling with Betty and enjoyed time with his family on every occasion. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at Santa Rosa Sutter Hospital for the excellent care dad received.
