98, of Forestville, died Sunday at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa. A 1935 Stanford graduate, he was a veteran of the Spanish Civil War, and spent most of his career as a reporter
for the San Francisco Chronicle and KQED's Newsroom, before retiring to Sonoma County. He also taught journalism, at both Cal-Berkeley and San Francisco State. He was the son of the poet William Rose Benet, and published two mystery novels as well as the Random House Guide to San Francisco and the Bay Area. He was married three times, and is survived by his son, Dr. Peter Benet of West Hartford, CT, his daughter, Judith Richardson of Woods Hole, Mass., as well as eight grandchildren and a great-grandson. His second daughter, Markie Hale, died in 1983. Burial will be by the Neptune Society.
