66, passed away suddenly on Sept. 1st. 2013. He was born August 7th, 1947 in Fort Benning, Georgia where his father, Marcellus Bussman, was stationed in the Air Force. His parents soon returned to their native Santa Rosa where John lived his entire life. John graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1965. He was very active in school sports, lettering in most of them. He graduated from Sacramento State College and became an elementary school teacher
for Old Adobe Union School District when he was only 26. He worked in the district for 32 years before retiring from Miwok Elementary in 2004. He was adored by his students and did many special projects for the school. John's love for sports continued throughout his life. He played on many local baseball teams and was an avid Giant's fan. He took daily walks and bike rides and often played tennis with his long time friend, Mike Speedling. He truly loved being outside. John also enjoyed going to the gym, gardening and cooking. John's walks through the neighborhood made him many friends. He frequently visited with neighbors to chat or just say hello. He was always there for all of his friends and family to lend a helping hand. He was especially helpful with his mother, native Santa Rosan, Julia Bussman, until she passed away last October. John adored his only nephew, Lenny Clayburg, and was a loving great uncle to Lenny's 3 year old daughter, Elsa, and 5 month old daughter, Ayla. He is sadly missed by all his friends and family. John also leaves behind a sister, Marcia Bussman Clayburg; her husband Jesse Cisney; Jesse's two children, China and Dylan Cisney; and Lenny's wife, Lisa Scheftner. He is preceded in death by his mother, Julia, and father, Marcellus Bussman. Public visitation will be held at Eggen and Lance Chapel, 1540 Mendocino Ave. from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13th. A graveside service will be held at Shiloh Cemetery,1750 Shiloh Road, Windsor on Saturday, September 14th at 1:00 p.m.. A reception/celebration will follow at John's childhood home, 1141 Murray Court, Santa Rosa, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. In place of flowers, donations may be made to the
