Passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in her home in Santa Rosa, on Dec. 8th, 2013, surrounded by her loving family after a brief recurrence from breast cancer. She is survived by her husband Roy, children Audrey Ploski (Steven), of Santa Rosa, Daniel Cherwin (Stacey Bolger), of Johnson City, TN, and Hilary Tahquechi (div., now with Matthew Ryan), of Palm Beach, FL, and three beloved grandchildren Brandon, William and Jessie. Joyce was preceded in death by her sister, Grace Golden. Joyce was born in New York City to Leo and Elsie Kahn on 12-20-1930. She trained as an artist and worked in Textile Design before her marriage to Roy in NYC in 1953. After raising her family, Joyce attended City College of New York, earning a BFA degree summa cum laude. An 18-year career as a commercial insurance claims adjuster included a relocation to Sonoma County in 1988. While working, Joyce made numerous friends and found Santa Rosa the best place on earth to live. Retirement allowed for extensive travel and hiking, and time to express her gift for painting as well as to develop a passion for writing, culminating in her memoirs. Joyce loved the outdoors, and talked frequently about Yosemite. She enjoyed classes at the SR Junior College in art and religion, and most recently a third career as a volunteer senior peer counselor for fifteen years. Her research into family history united strands of her family all over the world, a really satisfying endeavor. Joyce recently said she really enjoyed her life and it was full of everything she loved. A celebration of her life is planned for Sun., Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at the Santa Rosa Memorial Park, 1900 Franklin Avenue, Santa Rosa CA. 707-573-9534
