Our Beloved Karen Archbold passed away from complications surrounding a brain aneurism on Tuesday, October 30. The incredible amount of intimacy, hugs, tears, laughter and deeply palpable love that surrounded Karen's bedside that day was a testimony to the radiant spirit that she was for us all. Born on January 25, 1951, Karen always demonstrated a kind of generosity towards others that is rare to find in this world. Every friend that Karen ever met, she kept and everyone who ever met Karen, loved her immediately. As the second born child in a family of seven children, Karen helped her mother, Elaine, raise her siblings, creating a very close bond within her family. At the age of 15 she was introduced to the love of her life, Bill Archbold. They formed a beautiful relationship that eventually led them to marry in 1976. In 1977, they welcomed their first child, Erik and in 1979 their daughter Lisa was born. Karen and her family moved to Petaluma in 1986 where they set down roots and created a wonderful community of friends and family. The door to her house was always open to the many loved ones that would visit regularly. The Archbold house came to be loved by an ever-widening circle of friends as a place of unconditional love and warmth. Though she seemed to treasure the rare times when the house was quiet, she would fill the silence with her favorite musicians such as Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra and sip on a glass of white wine. Karen thrived off of the mutual love she shared with so many. She had a delightful sense of humor, was an incredibly fun and easy conversationalist and she had a unique way of making you always feel loved and comfortable in her presence. She also possessed an amazingly beautiful singing voice which now lives on in her children. Though she rarely sang publicly, Karen would sing occasionally at parties with her children and friends, always to the sheer delight of those who were present. In 2000, she and several of her musician friends recorded a CD on which she contributed several tracks that will be forever treasured. Karen's smile and her laugh will certainly be missed, but the light she radiated will live on eternally in all of our hearts. Thank you Dear Karen for giving your love so abundantly to us all. Because of you, our lives will never be the same. We have all been profoundly enriched by the way you loved us. Even in your passing, you have left us with a gift that can never be lost...for in the tremendous sadness and tears that have burst forth from the breaking of our hearts, we have been opened to a deeper remembrance of what's truly important in life; kindness and love. There will be a Celebration of Karen's Life on Saturday, November 24 at the Boys and Girls Club, 203 Maria Dr., Petaluma starting at 2:00 p.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m. Come celebrate Karen with us in gratitude for who she was and for all the ways that she opened our hearts forever.
