Passed away suddenly of natural causes on July 17, 2013. Michael was proud of the fact that he was a third generation native of Petaluma and he started his working career there with his father, Walt Thompson, a contractor in Petaluma. He was an avid fisherman and also loved camping, hiking and traveling and he felt it would be a good idea to know some emergency medical techniques. He sat in on a class and so started a long career in emergency medicine. He worked for several years in the Sutter (then Community) Hospital emergency room. He then worked for five years at Norrbom's Ambulance Service in Sonoma. In 1990 he started working for the Sonoma Fire Department as a firefighter/EMT, retiring in 2005. Michael believed in the goodness of people. His many long standing friendships are a testament to his truly caring nature. He believed in God and the awesome beauty of nature. He is survived by his love and life partner, June Hargis, his friend and loving sister, Ali Asper, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dot Rosa and Pat King. Michael will be sorely missed. At his request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to
