Percy Hayes Baker Jr. of Santa Rosa, CA passed away on Sunday Oct. 21, 2012 after a long courageous fight with cancer at the age of 80 years old. He was born to the late Percy Hayes Baker Sr. and Helen Estes Baker, May 24, 1932 in Suffolk, VA. A veteran of the United States Army
, Percy was a Medic in the Korean War
. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he graduated from Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD where he met and married the love of his life, Duane Baker. He moved his family to sunny Santa Rosa in 1971 following a job opportunity as the Manager of the local Social Security office, a position he held for more than 30 years. After retirement, he took up a second job, driving a school bus for Laidlaw for ten years and enjoyed the company of the students and parents. Percy was one of the most intelligent men you could ever meet. He was a voracious reader who also loved to cook, play cards, do crossword puzzles, word games, watch sports. Percy never met a stranger - everyone who knew him liked him and you knew that to be true if you ever patronized the former Melendys. He was a good man, a good father, a good husband and a good friend. Percy was loved and he will be missed. He is survived by his wife Duane, his daughter Dawn (Keith) of Cincinnati, OH, his sons, David (Kasey) and Eric both of Santa Rosa, his grandchildren Marc, Tristan, Kendall, Alexa, Ryan and Jalen and a host of friends and extended family.
