Richard B. "Rick" AVERY

Of Sebastopol passed away at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on March 26, 2014 at the age of 73. Rick was born March 29, 1940 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Clyde and Lodema (Fulker) Avery. He graduated from Central High School in 1958 and served four years as an electronic technician (radar) in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS Wallace L. Lind. In January 1965, he was awarded the Sailor of the Sixth Fleet commendation. A graduate of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, he moved to California in 1967, and received an MBA from San Francisco State University. Rick spent his 42-year career in Operations Management in the food processing industry, beginning with Del Monte Foods in San Francisco. He retired in 2010, after 14 years with Corona-Lotus, Inc. in Santa Rosa. A 34-year resident of Sebastopol, Rick was an avid hunter and fisherman, most often with his two sons. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two half-sisters, Maxine (Avery) Brungardt and Wanda (Avery) Soper. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Samaporn Tiewmapobsuk; his son John, daughter-in-law Atsuko, and granddaughter Taira of Cloverdale; and his son Matthew, and his fiancée Stephanie Summerton-French, of Palo Alto.
