
Age 67, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at his home in Sebastopol, California. He was born in Lorain, Ohio to Marjorie Grace Shellman and James Guy Shellman on May 2, 1945. He is survived by his son Erik Shellman, his daughter Joanna Hakala and their step-brother Macregor Wooley as well his granddaughter Aurora Hakala, his brother and sister Guy Shellman and Elizabeth Hover and five nieces and nephews John Scott Berglin, Leonard Guy Berglin, David Berglin, Amy Shellman-Smet and Alison Costello. He is also survived by his cousins Carl John Shellman, Rita Lincoln, Robert Shellman and John Tate. Rich graduated from Morningside High School in Inglewood, California. He went on to San Jose State University and graduated with a degree in Biology as well as with a secondary teaching credential. He worked as a retail clerk in Marin County until he retired in January 2003. Rich had many interests and read extensively on varied subjects such as botany, Buddhism, pottery, poetry and the French language. He was a gifted artist who delighted in reading fantasy novels, spending time with family, hunting for treasures at garage sales and everything to do with his granddaughter. Rich was the kind of father, brother and friend who you could call at any hour of any day and he would help you in any way he could. He was much loved and will be dearly missed.
