Vernon Howard SHICK

91, died October 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 24, 1922 in Pennsylvania. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and retired after 21 years as a Master Sergeant. He served during World War II in Guadalcanal and the Korean War. After retiring in December 1963 from the Marine Corps, he moved his family to Santa Rosa where he operated a family restaurant, the Rincon Pizzeria, for 10 years. Thereafter, he was employed by the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Petaluma until his final retirement in 1990. He was a member of St. Rose Church, Knights of Columbus, Young Men's Institute, and Marine Corps League. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and visiting with his grandchildren. He was admired and respected by everyone who met him. He will be greatly missed by his friends. He is survived by his wife Alice Shick of 62 years, his son, Douglas Shick; Son Scott Shick and daughter-in-law Shawn; daughter Cynthia Deutsch and son-in-law Bruce; daughter Carol Shick; daughter Joan Valente and son-in-law Matthew; and ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held for Vernon on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave, Santa Rosa, Ca. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in Vernon's memory to the Santa Rosa Marine Corps League Detachment, 686 Scholarship Fund, Attn: Robert Fisher 6225 State Farm Drive #101, Rohnert Park, Ca. 94928.
