Passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa, November 16, 2012, eleven days short of his 88th birthday, from Colon cancer and dementia. Wilbur was born in Enterprise, Oregon on November 27, 1924, to the late James Edgar, and Helen Grace Dale. Wilbur had wonderful stories of growing up in Eastern Oregon. He was a sheep herder, and mule skinner, as well as a marksman, and helped his family from his earnings including those from shooting competitions. After graduating from High School, Wilbur joined the Merchant Marines. While in the Merchant Marines, Wilbur was a Golden Gloves boxer undefeated in his weight class. Wilbur was a master mechanic, and worked for Boeing in Seattle, WA. There he met his wife of 55 years, Emmajean "Jean" Dale. Moving to Northern California, Wilbur began work for United Airlines, retiring in November 1989. Wilbur and Jean raised and showed Miniature Pinschers for many years. Wilbur's interest in radios began in the 70's with a CB radio. His handle was Nighthawk. He made many friends those years he was on his CB radio. He became involved with Redwood Empire Citizen Band Radio. Wilbur eventually moved on to Hamm radios, becoming a licensed Hamm radio operator. In addition to his wife Jean, Wilbur is survived by his daughters Debbie (Mark) Ferronato, and Janice Dale, his grandchildren, Nathan (Naomi) Williams, Justin (Jennifer) Ferronato, and Leslie Burke, his great grandchildren Noelle Williams, Lucas Williams, Braxton, Blayke, and Branzin Ferronato. He was predeceased by his sister Vadna Sanders, and survived by siblings Vivian Altman of Cottage Grove, OR, James (Marge) Dale of Boise, Idaho, Ione (Walt) Adolf of Keizer, OR, Larry (Nancy) Dale, of Newberg, OR, Jerry (Lessie) Dale of Newberg, OR, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Per his request no services are planned. Wilbur loved a good time, family, friends, and enjoyed his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They could do no wrong.
