William Charles "Bill" HART

Born April 5, 1923 in Sacramento, Ca. to Charles and Hazel Hart, passed away peacefully at home June 18, 2013. Dearest husband of Jean Harelson Hart for 68 wonderful years, beloved father of Candace Bisconte Greg , Chris Hart, Sarah Hart Michael Kaufman and Meredith Johnson Deron and devoted grandfather of Kelly, Lizzy, Christopher, Leah, William "Jake" and Anna. Also survived by his sister, Sally Yost Wilbur , dear exchange daughter Irene Etchell and her family in Australia and many nieces and nephews. After the outbreak of World War II Bill enlisted in the Navy and began the arduous training to become a Naval Aviator, finally commissioned in 1945. He and Jean were then marred far from home in Lake City, Fl. and began their love-filled life together. Following the war's end and six months duty on Okinawa, he returned to college at U.C. Berkeley, graduating with a degree in political science and a lifelong passion for the Golden Bears! Bill spent his whole professional career dedicated to work in local government, serving as Personnel Director now HR for 22years in Orange County, then 13 more in Sonoma. His was an illustrious career, full of accomplishments and satisfaction for him, and much respect, friendship and many honors from his peers. Upon his retirement in 1986 he and Jean, with companions or as a twosome, joyfully traveled the world, especially Australia, making dear international friends along the way. At home he enjoyed working in their colorful garden, feeding his birds and continuing the volunteer work which was always a vital part of his life. He held many leaderships as a very active member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa. He was a 34 year Board member for the YMCA where he exercised regularly serving as President one year, also a long-time Board member and one time President of Goodwill Industries. He offered his expertise to many other organizations, all whose purpose was to improve life for others less fortunate than he. Bill was blessed with a long and fruitful life and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. His children and grandchildren will strive to carry on the values which he so lovingly taught to them. The Hart family especially wants to thank dear Rusi for his tender care. Memorial Service will be held at 2 00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 1551 Montgomery Drive Santa Rosa.
