John R. Schlageter

July 21, 1921 - April 29, 2010. Jack passed away in Santa Rosa from complications of pneumonia. He was born in San Francisco to JJ and Alice Schlageter. Jack was a dedicated bank executive who worked 40 years for Bank of America (Northern Calif.) and five years for West America (Ukiah). A veteran of World War II he was active in Rotary, board member of Trinity School, and SIRS. Jack was an avid tennis player well into his 80's and challenged each of his family member to be the same. Stoic, yet witty, and charming, Jack left an indelible impression on all those he met. He is predeceased by his caring wife, Virginia Schlageter, brother Paul Schlageter and son-in-law Butch Purcell. Survived by sons Carl (Lora) of Santa Rosa, Tom (Christiane) of Chile, and daughter, Heidi Purcell of Ukiah. Also his grand-children Meghan and Craig Hildebrand, Abigail and Joy Schlageter, K.C. and Ben Scinto and his loving partner, Kathy Dunn of Windsor. Our family wishes to express deeply felt gratitude to the warm, compassionate caregivers at Chancellor Place, Primrose and Santa Rosa Memorial Hospice who cared for Jack and comforted and guided us through the difficult journey over the last ten months. At our father's request there will be no services and his ashes were scattered over the Pacific Ocean. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospice.
