Eugene Duane Abbott Jr.

Fourth Generation San Franciscan born on September 14, 1948. Peacefully passed away on November 21, 2010 of brain cancer, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Gene is survived by his mother, Barbara; wife, Mary; children: Niklaus von Atzigen (Kimberly), Rosalie, Ches (Hildegaard), and Austin; grandchildren: Daisy and Lukas; sister, Sandra. Gene was recognized as an outstanding educator by the Marin Co. Office of Education and U. C. Berkeley Extension. His career spanned 37 years beginning with teaching motorcycle and small engine repair, continued with automotive technology, progressed into school administration and teacher education. From 1979 - 1989 Gene owned and operated Stinson Beach Chevron, along with AAA towing service. The station housed the Broken Auto Parts Museum. Gene's pride and joy was his construction in 1976 of an addition to his Bolinas home which included a 30 foot tower. Gene was a lifelong surfer, proud to have taught all his children to surf at his cherished spot, the Bolinas clam patch. A surfer's memorial is being planned.
