Charles Peter Torliatt

Passed away at home in Petaluma, CA, September 23, 2010, beloved husband of Althea M. Torliatt. Adored father of Dan (Carolyn) Torliatt, Patricia Moats, Kathy Plank and the late Charles "Chuck" Torliatt. Cherished grandfather of Pamela Torliatt, Jon "JT" Torliatt, Jaime Moats and Travis Plank. Loving great-grandfather of Savanna Torliatt and Colby Torliatt. A native of Petaluma, CA. Age 91 years. Charles was born, reared and educated in Petaluma. At the age of 16, Charlie, a trumpet player, started his own band called "Charlie's Rhythm Rascals". The group played at dances and picnics at the old Lakeville barn, Hamilton AFB and the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. He worked at Mare Island before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he settled in Alameda, until returning to Petaluma in 1947. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office for over 33 years until his retirement in 1983. Charles also served for many years on the Liberty School Board and later managed the Liberty District Cemetery. He and his wife Althea, would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 24, 2010. During their marriage they traveled extensively, visiting such locations as Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Russia, France, Germany, Alaska, Canada and Hawaii. They enjoyed many of their trips traveling with groups arranged by Charles and Fran Condrotte. At the request of Charles, there will be no services. Private inurnment will be at Liberty Cemetery.
