James Tuttle Obituary

Formerly of Hewitt, TX, passed away in Santa Rosa, CA surrounded by his family on October 13, 2011 at the age of 88. Jim was born on June 24, 1923 in Nolanville, TX and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. As a private first class in Company A 648th tank destroyer battalion, he served in the Army during World War II in the Rhineland Central Europe before receiving an honorable discharge on April 2, 1946. He was awarded the WWII Victory Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theatre Ribbon, the Eame Theatre Ribbon and a pair of bronze service stars. Jim was in the trucking business much of his life hauling freight and gasoline around the western United States in general and in the Los Angeles metropolitan area in particular. He retired in 1993 after fifty years in the industry. Jim was married to the love of his life Purl (June) Tuttle on March 29, 1952 in Los Angeles where they lived for over 40 years before returning to his home state of Texas in 1993. In 2009 he moved back to California to live with daughter Judy and son-in-law Bill Pinella following June's passing in 2008 after 56 years of marriage. Jim was also preceded in death by his parents Fred and Minnie Tuttle; brothers J.D. Tuttle and Roy Tuttle and sister Sara (Babe) Coughlin. He is survived by his daughter Judy Pinella and son-in-law Bill of Santa Rosa; grandchildren Willie Pinella of South Lake Tahoe, Christine Pinella of San Francisco and Timothy Pinella of South Lake Tahoe; sister Maxine Wilson of Oregon; nephews Jordy Tuttle of Texas, Michael Tilgner, WA; nieces Sue Bonascera of WA, Patty Burtner of Oregon, and Lana Kincaid of Texas; several great nieces and nephews and cousin Hazel McQueen of Oregon. Jim loved his grandchildren, bowling, cars, trucks, donating to various charities, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Jeff Dunham and ice cream. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a member of the American Legion Post 120 of Bell, CA and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church 398 Tenth Street, Santa Rosa. Interment Services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Rosemound Cemetery, Waco, TX.
