Juanita Cooper Obituary

Passed away peacefully in her home in Santa Rosa on August 14, 2010 following a long illness. Juanita was the middle of five siblings born to Juan and Maggie Rubio on June 24, 1915 in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Juanita was a graduate of Lowell High School and was a regular tennis player at the North Beach Playground. She excelled at that sport. She lived for many years in Hawaii with her husband George Cooper who predeceased her in death in 1986. While in Hawaii she became a very successful real estate agent and eventually a broker in her own real estate office. In 1968 she and her husband moved to Santa Rosa where she continued working as a real estate agent until she retired in the late 1980's. She was an avid gardener and possessed the proverbial green thumb... a plant never perished under her excellent care. She walked regularly in Howarth Park until she found that a 2 1/2 mile trek around her neighborhood in the Grace Tract area was more comfortable for her. She was an excellent, accomplished cook and was known for preparing delicious dishes for family and friends. Her cooking skills ranged from making simple and humble dishes to complicated recipes requiring many ingredients. She was preceded in death by her brother John, and sisters Aurora, Ernestine, and Alma. She is survived by her loving daughter, Margeaux Pearson and devoted son-in-law William Pearson of Santa Rosa. She is also survived by nephews John Cooper (Rachel) Chicago, Ill.; Martin Nikula (Leslie), Pasadena; John Nikula (Nicki), Santa Rosa; niece Georgeanne O'Keefe, Santa Rosa; and many grandnephews and grandnieces. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial at DANIELS CHAPEL OF THE ROSES, 1225 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11th followed by a reception/dinner in her honor at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Donations may be made to Hospice by the Bay, 17 East Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Larkspur, CA 94939. DANIELS CHAPEL OF THE ROSES FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES (707) 525-3730
