Catherine Rebok Porro Notice
Catherine Rebok Porro
Died peacefully on November 16, 2018, two weeks after celebrating her 97th birthday. Born in 1921, she soon moved to Northern California, where she spent most of her life. In her youth, she took voice lessons, studied Latin, Greek, and French, and loved to play tennis. She lived in San Francisco during her school years and attended UC Berkeley, where she met her husband, Emo D. Porro. Married in 1941, she was a full-time homemaker after World War II, until her children, Jeffrey and Jennifer Porro, reached high school age. She then returned to university to complete her bachelor's degree and earn a PhD from UCLA in clinical psychology in 1968. She had a long career as a staff psychologist in the California state mental hospital system, taught classes at Cal State Northridge, and saw private patients part-time.
She retired in 1986 and moved to Oakmont, where she became a dedicated lawn bowler, an active member of her neighborhood association, and an avid reader who made great use of the Oakmont library.
She deeply loved her children and grandchildren. On her 97th birthday, she did a crossword puzzle, told jokes, and talked about the election.
