He moved to California at the age of five with his parents, Cleburne August and Mary Jaunita Williams. After residing in Graton and Sausalito, they settled west of Sebastopol, next to the town of Occidental, where he helped build their home. While attending school at Pacific Christian Academy in Graton, he worked for Alfred Hallberg at the Hallberg Apple Ranch in Graton. After high school, he delivered lumber for Sturgeons Mill west of Sebastopol, until he was then drafted and served in the United States Marine Corps state side during the Korean Conflict. He then attended Harding College in Little Rock Arkansas, where he met Lorraine Akin. They were later married at the Church of Christ in Graton, and built their home near Occidental with the help of his father. While raising their six children he fished commercially. First on the "Ellen E." out of Bodega Bay, and later on the "Lorraine W." which he built with the help of his sons on the banks of the Petaluma River, behind Van Bebber Steel Co. He sold the boat and delivered it to its new owner in Hawaii and retired from commercial fishing in the 1980's. He enjoyed camping, metal detecting, gold panning and fishing. Ike was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, and is survived by his six children, Don, Debbie, Becky, Karl, Patty, and Cleburne (Fawn); two grandchildren, Kody and Kayla; as well as his dog, Bodie.
