David Rose Obituary

ROSE,David Leslie Passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2011. David was born February 22, 1921 in the town of Mendocino, the only child of parents David George Rose and Leta May Howard. He graduated from Eureka High School in 1938. David joined the U.S. Army in 1939 and was stationed with the 27th Infantry Wolfhounds, Company E at Schofield Barracks in Honolulu. He was there during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. In June 1942 he graduated from Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA as a 2nd Lieutenant. He later attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant, but his military career ended after an explosion ruptured an ear drum, forcing his discharge in September 1944. During his service David earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon and the American Defense Medal. After returning to civilian life, David got his teaching and administrator credentials at San Francisco State, as well as his master's in counseling at Sonoma State. He spent 25 years as a teacher, principal and counselor in the Sebastopol, Oak Grove and Santa Rosa City School Districts, influencing many young lives throughout his career. After retirement he and his wife Jane enjoyed traveling the world. David is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 40 years, Helen Conrady Rose and his second wife of 24 years, Jane Guyre Lane Rose. He is survived by his step-children, Michael (Connie) Lane, Susan (Barry) Gambini and Kathleen (Jeff) Reynolds; 17 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service Friday, January 14th at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 4325 Mayette Avenue, Santa Rosa. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Santa Rosa High School Foundation.
