Ernest (Ernie) Robert Mitchell passed away suddenly in PVH on January 21, 2013 at the age of 88. Ernie was surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Berkeley California, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Emily and daughter Janell. He is survived by two brothers; Lewis, David, and a sister; Blanche. His daughter Bonnie (and Ken) Warren, son Steve (and Sandy) Mitchell and along with grandchildren; Aaron Borchard, Martha Howard, Nicole Wood, Paula Courtright, Brandon Mitchell, Bryce Mitchell and seven great grandchildren. He served his country on the destroyer USS Taylor for the signing of the peace treaty with the Japanese in Tokyo Bay at the end of World War II. A past Grand Master of the Free Masons and a current member of SIRS, and past member of PAPA, Petaluma. Ernie worked at the Chevron Refinery in Richmond for almost 40 years. He owned a plane and loved flying and ocean cruises. In retirement he went on cruises at least twice a year with his late wife Emily. With his great smile and easy going personality he made friends easily and will be missed sorely by his family and many friends in the community. In the last years of his life he often travelled with his dear lady friend; Shirley Selberg who also grieves over his sudden death. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Petaluma Estates clubhouse, Saturday, February 9, 1:00-5:00 p.m. located at 901 N. McDowell Blvd., Petaluma.
