Evelyn Cozzolino Obituary

Passed away peacefully on October 22, 2010. "Evy" was born Evelyn Louise Ahlman, the eldest of four children, to Louise and Albert Ahlman in the small country town of Hadar, Nebraska on January 24, 1916. Evy graduated from Norfolk High (NE) in 1934. During the depression in 1938, she applied and was accepted for a government job with the newly formed Social Security System, first in Baltimore and then Washington, D.C. A year and a half later, she chose to transfer to Santa Rosa, California. Evy arrived by train at the Santa Rosa Railroad Square Depot in the summer of 1940. Weeks later she met Alessio (Les) Bettini at a dance at Rio Nido. They married, and during those years, Evy was a busy stay-at-home mother and a strong supporter and member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church both as a Sunday school teacher and a member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She remained a member for 70 years. Evy returned to work at the California State Department of Forestry for eleven years. Les passed away in 1974, and six years later she met and married Joseph Cozzolino. Joe and Evy spent 26 happy years together traveling in a variety of RVs and spending the year between Santa Rosa and Yuma, AZ. Evy will be deeply missed. She will be remembered for her love of having fun and her no nonsense mid-west attitude toward life. She is survived by her sister, Jean Werner, of Nebraska; four children: Steve Bettini of Santa Cruz, Suzanna Bettini of New York, Catherine (Bettini) and Joe Capitani of Santa Rosa, Cynthia Bettini and Phil (McAdams) of Vallejo; grand-daughters, Elaina and Jessica, and five great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service is scheduled on Sat, Oct 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, 1900 Franklin Ave. in the chapel. Friends welcome. Evelyn (Mrs. Bettini) was one of my Sunday School teachers at St. Luke Lutheran Church back in the 60's. I remember her as a lovely woman, gracious to all, and always had a smile on her face. Praying God's comfort and peace to all her family and loved ones.

I got to know Evy at Vintage and loved her wit and zest for life. She was always a great participant in my activity programs there. I recently got to see her at Hanna House in her last days when I came there to do activities. We were like two old friends and I was so happy to see her again! It is good to know she is now with the Lord. She will be remembered fondly. God bless her family and friends. Love in Christ, Judith
