Frances Kaplan Obituary

Frances Kaplan was born on May 10, 1916 in a small town in Poland. She came to the United States when she was four years old. Frances passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa on September 12, 2010 at the age of ninety-four. Frances's parents were Oser and Esther Strauss. She had two brothers, Irv and Simon, both deceased. Frances lived most of her life in Cleveland, Ohio, and had a wonderful marriage to Samuel Kaplan, who sadly passed away in 1961. Despite this terrible loss, Frances on her own made a good life for herself and her family. Frances moved to Plantation, Florida in the late 1960s and successfully managed her affairs well enough to purchase a home there and maintain a comfortable existence. But her family, now living in the San Francisco area, missed her, and finally convinced her to move to Santa Rosa, near to where they lived. For most of a ten year period Frances maintained her health, allowing her family to enjoy having her with them. Frances always had a youthful outlook on life. Her great appreciation of nature and the arts kept her vibrant into her 90s. Frances was a very generous person, not only with her family but in support of many Jewish causes. She could always be counted on to help out when the need arose. Frances is survived by three children, two sons Mort Kaplan, currently living in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Ray Kaplan, who lives in Sonoma County. Her married daughter, Sara Schulist, lives in Marin County. Frances has a granddaughter, Stacy Schulist, and grandson, Michael Schulist, both of whom live in the Bay Area. Her great grandsons are Mark Schulist and Miles Schulist. Frances was a caring individual and loving mother. We shall miss her always. The family requests that any donations to honor Frances' life be made to the Friendship Circle c/o The Jewish Community Center of Sonoma County, 1301 Farmers Lane, Santa Rosa, CA (707) 528-4222.
