Gwen Horvath Obituary

94, a long resident of Sonoma county, died Friday, September 24th, 2010 in Rohnert Park. Gwen was the third child of Charles and Emma Dye, born in London, England in 1915. As a young teenager, she joined a dance troupe and toured England. At one theater, she met Louis Armstrong who was also on tour. Gwen became the "go to" girl of the all-female troupe for wardrobe repairs, which led to a long life as a seamstress and dress-maker. During World War II she worked at Wembly Stadium in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) processing the paperwork for deceased soldiers. After the war, she came to America to improve her life. She met and married Nicholas Horvath in 1947 and settled in the Bay Area. She and Nick moved to Bodega Bay in the 1970s to be close to their son, then to the hills west of Sebastopol in the 1980s. Gwen had been living in Rohnert Park since being widowed in 2008. Gwen is survived by her son Louis R. Mills who lives in Sebastopol. A private Celebration of Life will be held for Gwen on October 3rd, which would have been Gwen's 95th birthday. Arrangements under the direction of: PLEASANT HILLS MEMORIAL PARK & MORTUARY, Sebastopol. Cheda & Lyons - Directors (707) 823-5042
