Died peacefully at Golden Living Center, Santa Rosa California on December 18th 2013. He was born on June 15th 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Arthur and Mary Ellen Raitano. He was 85 years old. Loving husband for 43 years to Janice A. Raitano of Santa Rosa. Beloved father of Linda Lazar (Michael) of Santa Rosa, Laura Wolk (Brad) of Montera, Arthur Raitano (Sue) of Los Angeles, and Anthony Raitano (Jessica) of Santa Rosa. Grandfather of Michael Lazar III (Fangfang) of Westminster, Colorado, Lia Lazar of Washington D.C., Matthew Lazar of San Francisco, Benjamin Wolk of Berkeley, Zachary Wolk of Davis, Donovan Brown and Marcus Raitano both of Santa Rosa. Great Grandfather of Sara Lynn Lazar and Felix Lazar of Westminster, Colorado. Cousin of George Van Fossen (Barbara). A member of Star of the Valley Catholic Church and Diplomate American Board of Surgery. He enjoyed music, reading and gardening. A graduate of St. Louis Medical School in 1952, he interned at S.F. General and completed his Residency in general surgery at UCSF and S.F. Veteran's Admin Hospital. In 1959 he began his private practice of General and Vascular Surgery in Santa Rosa. He was past Chief of Med. Staff at SR Memorial Hospital and Warrack Medical Center, and retired in 1994. He served in the U.S.A.F. as a flight surgeon during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Ed had a passion for the arts, including opera and classical music. He had an insatiable appetite for knowledge, particularly history, geography and religion. The love and compassion he showed for his family and patients knew no bounds. The family would like to thank Dr. Kent Matsuda and Golden Living Center for their excellent care. A private family Catholic burial service will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Santa Rosa, California.
