1926 - 2018 Notice Condolences
Harold N. Dietrick Notice
On Wednesday, November 28th, 2018, loving husband and father of four, Harold N. (Gus) Dietrick passed away peacefully at home at the age of 92.

Harold was born on February 13th, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas to Charles and Fay Dietrick. He joined the Marines, with his parent's consent, in 1943 at the age of 17 and fought in campaigns at Peleliu and Okinawa as a member of the First Marine Division, Baker Company. He became a contractor and worked for 40 years in the construction industry. He married Joan Caselli Garrigan on August 25th, 1991, with whom he spent the final 27 years of his life.

Harold was known by the nickname "Gus" to his close friends and family, and was an outgoing, giving person, who enjoyed helping those in need. He loved surprising people, and delighted in successfully fooling loved ones with harmless misdirection and pranks in order to maximize the impact and effect of one of his surprises. He was passionate about traveling. He and Joan bought a motor home after retirement and traveled throughout the better part of of the United States together in it. He loved to camp, fish and hunt. He was quick witted and had an infectious personality and compassionate spirit, that drew people to him. He was a consummate "do it yourselfer" and possessed a multitude of practical skills for implementing his often creative solutions to challenging problems. He was an effective and patient teacher and his commitment to living a principled life was inspirational. He was a true man of his word and was never later than 15 minutes early for anything! He was sincerely loved by many, and will be deeply missed!

Harold was preceded in death by his father Charles, and his mother Fay, as well as his sisters, Fay-Ellen, and Jane. He is survived by his wife Joan Dietrick and her children Jeff Garrigan, Janine Stieben and Jacky Goff. Harold is also survived by his four children, daughter Kathi Carney, and sons, David Evans, Charles Evans, and Jim Dietrick, as well as daughters-in-law Stacey Dietrick and Alysa Evans and son-in-law Chris Carney, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on December 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Santa Rosa Memorial Park at 1900 Franklin Avenue in Santa Rosa, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Petaluma. Harold N. February 13, 1926 - Dietrick November 28, 2018
