Passed peacefully in her sleep, at home at the age of 83. Ida was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, John, in 2004. She is survived by her loving daughter Diane Martini and son-in-law Bill Butler, her brother Carlo Passalalpi and sister-in-law Mara Cesaretti, her granddaughters Allison Brinkley and Rebecca Perkins (Christopher), great grandson Wesley Perkins, nephew Tim Passalalpi and niece Tami Hallock. Ida was born in Florence Italy and came to the United States on July 4, 1946. Her family settled in San Francisco and it was here that she met the love of her life, John Martini. They were married in January of 1948 and began their life together. In 1955 the family moved to the Miraloma Park area of San Francisco. It was here that Ida enrolled Diane into Miraloma Cooperative Nursery School and launched a lifelong career in Early Childhood Education. She began at Miraloma as a parent, then as Assistant Teacher and then 1962 as Director where she influenced and guided the children and parents for 20 years. After leaving Miraloma, she continued her career with City College of San Francisco by teaching Child Observation classes, Parenting classes for PTA'S and instituting Parenting in the Business Community for Corporations in the Financial District of the City. She retired in 1984 and she and John built their dream home in Santa Rosa where they enjoyed all that Sonoma County had to offer. Ida loved to entertain, cook, travel, dance, work in her garden and listen to music. But her greatest love was for her family and she loved them abundantly. In the words of one of her friends "She was a gem." A memorial celebration of Ida's life is being held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave. Santa Rosa, CA 95405.
