JoAnn passed away at home on Jan. 7, 2013 after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Christine Adkins. JoAnn graduated in 1958 from Sonoma Valley High School. She attended Kaiser School of Nursing in Oakland and graduated with her B.S. in nursing from Sonoma Sate University. While attending nursing school she met her husband, Hal, at a California Maritime Academy dance. JoAnn adventurously traveled the world. She and her husband spent many years living in Panama where Hal was a Panama Canal pilot. They made life-long friends there who they reunited with each year in Las Vegas. JoAnn was an avid collector of recipe books. She enjoyed watching the Food Network. She was a generous hostess and loved entertaining. JoAnn and Hal will be long remembered for their 4th of July parties in Forestville. JoAnn worked for the State of California Dept. of Health Services and served on the Sonoma County Mental Health Advisory Board. She enjoyed her involvement with the Women's Propeller Club. JoAnn was predeceased by her husband and her brother, Bud Adkins. She is survived by her sister, Elaine (Don) Raboin, nieces Kim Bernardini (Brett Kimble), Tami (Erik) Scharff, Amy (David) Barley, Diane (Rory) Springfield, nephew, Steven (Deena) Adkins, Uncle John Adee and cousins in Texas, a special friend, Kellie Callahan, who was her Little Sister for more than forty years and a close group of dear friends from her nursing school years. She loved her Boxer dogs Judy, Taffy, and Georgina. A celebration of JoAnn's life will be held Saturday, February 2.
