John Kannisto Obituary

John. I. Kannisto was born in San Francisco on November 27, 1916. He was a graduate of Balboa High School. Not long after graduation, he joined the Navy to serve his country during World War II. Upon being honorably discharged from the service at the end of the war, he joined the San Francisco Police Department. He served the City for over 32 years. During that time he rose through the ranks to the position of Captain. After retiring, he continued an active lifestyle which included his love of deep sea fishing off the coast of San Francisco. John I. Kannisto passed away on September 2, 2010 at the age of 93 in a nursing home in Santa Rosa, CA after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his brother Arvo W. Kannisto of Santa Rosa, CA; nephews David Kannisto of Gardnerville, NV; Richard Kannisto of Truckee, CA; and niece Kathleen (Kannisto) Abinanti of Sparks, NV. Cremation handled by the Neptune Society. Donations in memory of John to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.
