Ken "Coach" GOETZEL Notice
GOETZEL, Ken "Coach" Ken "Coach" Goetzel passed away peacefully at 90 on December 13, 2017, in Henderson, NV where he'd moved to be near his sister. During his life he served in the Navy, coached track and field while teaching at Santa Rosa High where he retired in 1991. He founded the Santa Rosa Relays and served as NBL commissioner for two years. He is preceded in death by his sons Kenneth Wesley Goetzel Jr. and Terry Lynn Goetzel, brothers Gene Goetzel and Verne Goetzel. He is survived by his daughter Connie Goetzel, grandson Cameron Goetzel, granddaughter Caitlin Goetzel and sisters Sara Brown and Edith Hamrick as well as many nephews and nieces who adored their Uncle Ken. Ken was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed following the Olympics in several places around the globe. He was known by friends and relatives as a lifelong educator as well as a passionate reader. One of his favorite former students wrote saying "he was such a well-loved teacher, coach and friend." He will be greatly missed.
