Mary Gallo Obituary

Mary Patricia Gallo, 85, beloved wife and mother, passed away September 3rd 2010 at her home in Sonoma. Mary was born on July 5th 1925 in Eureka, California, to Muriel and Leonard Boulester. She moved to Sonoma with her parents in 1939 and attended Sonoma Valley High School. After graduating in 1944, she moved to San Francisco where she worked for The Call Bulletin Newspaper until she was accepted into the United States Cadets Nurse Corps in Seattle, Washington in 1945. Mary moved to Seattle in March of 1945 and took nurses training at the University of Washington. After graduating she returned to Sonoma where she worked for several local doctors for 25 years. Mary was a loving wife to her late husband Guido J. "Babe" Gallo, for 53 years, whom she married on June 4th 1950, after meeting on a blind date on New Year's Eve in 1948. She was also active in Guido's business, "Gallo Bros." by hosting annual extravaganzas that coincided with the release of each years' new car model. For years she volunteered for the Red Cross and after surviving her cancer, began volunteering for the American Cancer Society. She was instrumental in organizing the first breast clinic in Sonoma . Mary was Vice-President of the Saint Francis Mother's Club, an officer of the Ursuline's Mother's Club and a Native Daughter of the Golden West. Mary was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, the Sons of Italy, and the Lion's Club of Sonoma. Mary was also a member of The Birthday Club; a group of local women who would get together on each other's birthday to celebrate their lives. Mary was a homemaker and very family oriented. She enjoyed cooking large, Italian meals for family. Mary was a loving mother of four daughters; Tricia French of Sonoma, Tina Acordagoitia of Reno, Terisa Gallo-Gaffner of Sonoma, and Tiana Gallo-Pickett of Tulare. She was the Mother-in-Law of Wayne Pickett and Jeff Gaffner. Mary was the grandmother of nine; and great-grandmother of eight. Dear Tina,
I don't know if you remember me, but we knew each other four decades ago. Your Mom was wonderful, and your Dad, too. I so fondly recall her taking us to various activities up here when I'd come up to visit you and your family as a "tourist" from San Francisco (we'd met up at the Russian River one summer).
Please know that you and all of yours are in my prayers.

Dear Tina,

I am looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, but am sorry it is a sad occasion. When I think of your mom, what I remember most is how warm she was. She was always so welcoming when we came to your house for swimming parties and other get-togethers. She really loved people, and that is a great quality. My thoughts are with you and your whole family.
Love,
Karen Doyle

There is not enough kind and heart felt words to describe your mother and the impact she has had on the lives of other she has come across.

I remember growing up when she would stop by our house to visit my mother and father or be there for a birthday club event at our house.

It was an honor and privilege to know her, your father and family. She was as many in the birthday club were, Angels from heaven here on earth, but are now with God.

God Bless you Mary Gallo and your family.

Your mother was the kindest person I ever met. When I was a child
she had a way of making me feel important and accepted. Even though it has been at least 45 years since I have seen her, I have never forgotten her friendly and loving nature. I will miss her even though I know she is with the angels in Heaven.
