Phil Gilmore Obituary

Our son, father, brother, brother-in-law and friend died October 3rd, 2010 just one month after his 54th birthday. A resident of Sonoma County since he was three years old, Phil was a gifted engineer, a talented photographer and musician, a devoted family man and a guy of great intelligence, humor, wit and charm. We all loved him dearly, and we'll never know anyone like him again. Phil held the patent on the fiendishly complex and have - to - be - 100% - dependable automated conveyor systems used by United Parcel Service, and at the same time he loved older Italian cars - go figure. Phil is survived by his two beloved children, Emily and Kyle Gilmore of Healdsburg; and by his mother Jean Gilmore; his brothers Jim and wife Patricia, Steve, Keith (Casey) and wife Sally and their son Peter; as well as his former wife Pamela Gilmore, all Sonoma County residents. He was predeceased by his father, Joe Gilmore. Friends and family please join us to celebrate Phil's life at 2000 Lawndale Rd., Kenwood Saturday afternoon, November 6th, beginning at 1:00 pm.

We were very saddened to learn of Phil's passing. We send our condolences and heartfelt sympathies to his family. Any loss is hard to accept but when it is someone so young and with so much to contribute it is especially sad.

Phil and I worked together at Rapistan for several years. He was very instrumental in the significant growth and success of the Santa Rosa operation through the specialty products he designed. He was a capable and creative engineer who provided leadership and the willingness to think outside of the box. I considered Phil a colleague and a friend. I am sure he will be missed by his family and friends but I am also sure he leaves you with fond memories and pride in his accomplishments both personal and professional.

Our deepest sympathies,
Carol and Frank Buda

Phil, I was always inspired by your engineering thought process and your sense of Humor. We worked together on many UPS Projects and I along with my UPS Partners always knew we had the right design engineer on the Project. The times we spent together will be remembered and I will share our time together with mutual friends.

I am saddened to learn of Phil’s passing away. I had the pleasure to work for Phil at Rapistan Santa Rosa. We tackled on a number of development projects together at Brickway, Briggs, and later on Concourse Blvd office. Phil was a remarkable man in and of out office: warmhearted, humorous, and always ready to help. Above all, his positive attitude towards life inspired me the most. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Phil was a wonderful and thoughful colleague at Rapistan systems. As he was one of the last employees reamining at the plant when the production was moved out of state, he was dedicated to satifsying customer orders during that difficult period. My wishes and thoughts go out to his family.

I went to high school with Phil, and always found him to be a person that would take the time to talk with anyone. Even in those early years, you could see his intellect shining through. I still remember him driving an MG TD that he converted to run off of a Buick V6 and automatic transmission. Boy did it go fast! He just seemed like the nicest guy, and will be missed.
