Phyllis V. Walters passed away in her Santa Rosa home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from metastasized breast cancer. Phyllis was born in La Sierra, CA where she attended college and subsequently met her future husband. After a brief decade in Pasco, WA, she and her family moved to Santa Rosa where Phyllis enjoyed living the rest of her life. It is difficult to list the contributions Phyllis made to her community: She was a dedicated teacher and reading specialist at Healdsburg Elementary for 24 years, spending every waking moment researching, planning, and instructing on better ways to guide children through the learning process. She was tireless in her work and took true joy in working with children. Loved by all who met her, Phyllis was a force of nature: If there was one word to describe her it would be 'class', however that single word cannot begin to encompass the selfless work and effort she gave everything she attempted, nor can it describe the care she gave to others. Phyllis was a consummate pianist, vocalist, and cellist. She was also an accomplished painter, and took to learning Photoshop like her life depended on it. As a caring and loving mother to her daughter, Tricia Walters, and her son, Bret Walters, Phyllis without reserve, loved their respective life partners as her own. The world is a lessor place without you Phyllis - you will be sorely missed. Contributions can be made to support her passion: Healdsburg Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1668, Healdsburg, CA 95448. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
