Raymond D. "Tim" Nichols Jr.

Raymond Nichols Obituary

Tim was a very familiar face in the local golf world. For over 25 years he sold golf equipment at Nevada Bob's. His "expertise" was fitting the club to the player. He passed away on October 24, 2010. He was born on November 21, 1938, the third child of Raymond D. and Edna Beemer Nichols. He grew up in Oakland, and was a Naval Reservist serving in the Pacific during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He came to Santa Rosa in the early 80's and never returned to the Bay Area. His world revolved around golf. It all began when his dad handed him a club at five years of age. He played many golf courses. His favorites were: Royal Saigon, Bandon Dunes, Cabo del Sol, Sequoyah (Oakland) and Bennett Valley, where he was a weekly fixture. He cherished his family, brother Bob Nichols (Jennifer), sister Nancy Schweitz (Jack). Tim had great love for his nieces and nephews; Monte Montgomery, Bob Montgomery (Jody), and the late Pam Montgomery Bandiera, and Christie Nichols (Ed), and David Nichols of Florida. He delighted in the grand nieces and nephews: Scott and Paige Montgomery of Santa Rosa and Travis and T.K. Nichols of Florida. Tim was a fond uncle-in-law to Debra, Megan and Hanna Schweitz. He cherished his golf buddies: Chris and Terry, Greg, Jeremy, Bobby, Steve (the fireman), Steve (the electrician), Roy, Scott, Art and his longtime lady friend Lucy (Lucille) Pawson. He also cherished his clothier, Jerry of Patrick James. His favorite golfing story: He was miles into a remote forest in Oregon looking for a new course. After many twists and turns with no signs of civilization, he finally came to a clearing where there was a small portable office and one other car. A man got out of the other car and said "Hey, Tim! Are my golf shoes ready?" There will be no services at his request. The family wishes to thank Alicia Foucher, RN, Sutter VNA, for her loyal care and compassion. Donations may be made to Sutter VNA of Sonoma County.

Um, Um, Ah... pushing his glasses up, talking about golf or his latest golf joke, his nephews hockey accomplishments, Tim was a special friend, we will miss him.

Tim was one of our dear, dear, quirky friends like all the "boys" at Bennett Valley. He was special to us, and he knew it and I think that made him happy. Seems every bar we went to, there was Tim having his cocktail and then leaving to go look for his pillow. We just liked the guy, what can we say. He will be missed and I think we will always look for him until we see him again on the other side.
