85 years, died October 3, 2012 at home in Sonoma. He was the loving husband for 58 years of Barbara Acuff Johnson; adored Father of Randy and Jay Johnson and Julie Ackerly. He was the proud grandfather of six and great grandfather of one. R.V. was a native of Hugo, Oklahoma. He came to California while a teenager, he attended high school in east L.A. and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945. He attended St. Mary's College and received his teaching degree from S.F. State. His first teaching job was at Santa Rosa High School in 1953. He taught American Government as well as coaching football under his mentor Jimmy Underhill. He coached football at the colligate level at the University of Idaho. He also taught at College Park Hall School in Pleasant Hill. He continued teaching government, coaching football and golf until his retirement in 1987. He was an inductee into St. Mary's and College Park's Hall of Fame. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Duggan's Mission Chapel, 525 West Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476 at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012.
