Stephen Cary Obituary

Dr. Stephen Clarke Cary passed away suddenly on October 29, 2010 at Ashland Community Hospital. He was born in San Francisco on February 2, 1932 to Florence and William Cary MD. He attended UC Berkeley and went on to medical school at Yale, New Haven Connecticut. He completed surgical residencies at both Yale-New haven Hospital and UC San Francisco giving him a unique set of surgical skills born in the east and honed in the west. Dr. Cary practiced vascular and general surgery for 24 years in Santa Rosa, California before moving to Ashland Oregon where he completed his surgical career at Ashland Community Hospital from 1991 to 1997. Dr Cary performed for many years in the Santa Rosa Symphony. A lifelong aviator and private pilot, Dr Cary established an Air Ambulance to transport patients to vital medical care in the Northwest and Canada. He will be remembered for his brilliant and inquisitive mind and his vast appreciation of beauty in everything from art and music to his passion for vintage automobiles. Dr. Cary's first wife, Lynn Palmer gave him five wonderful children, four of which survive him (James, Loren, John and Catherine). Steve's second wife, Christine Sears gave him a loving stepson (Brian Lee) and 33 years of marriage. They were best friends and shared classical music and a love for the performing arts. He was a gifted cellist but chose to help people with his extraordinary skills as a surgeon rather than as a performer. Steve's four brothers (William, John, Tony, and Reed) and one sister (Allison) will mourn his loss as will his many life-long friends. At his request, there will be no formal services. Contributions to Chamber Music venues in Ashland would be appreciated by his family. Arrangements: LITWILLER - SIMONSEN FUNERAL HOME, ASHLAND, OREGON www.litwillersimonsen.com
