Susan Marie Parker passed away in Santa Rosa early Sunday morning, Dec. 9, 2012, leaving her loving family and friends to mourn her loss. Susan was a beautiful, intelligent, caring and loving person who was consistently at the top of her profession in real estate. She was passionate about decorating, both interior and exterior. She loved sunning in the desert at Palm Springs or Hawaii, and traveling to Graeagle in the Sierras to be with friends and enjoy the mountain vistas. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain at home or out, providing good conversation, humor and companionship to all who knew her. Her friends knew her as caring and generous. Susan was born to James and Julia Foreman Gault in Inglewood, California, on June 8, 1948. She was raised in both Palos Verdes and San Bruno, following her father's work with Merle Norman cosmetics in the 1960s. She graduated from South High School in Torrance and immediately went to live for six months in a total language and culture immersion program in Guadalajara, Mexico. One of her earliest jobs was with North American Aviation, a pioneer in aerospace manufacturing which is now part of Boeing. Not content with office work, she soon migrated to real estate, which became a lifelong pursuit, entering into the business with Ernest Hahn, a pioneer in developing shopping centers (including the Santa Rosa Mall), as a leasing agent. She worked for a time as a leasing agent for Taco Bell, as well. Susan started buying houses in Southern California, fixing them up and selling them for a profit long before it became trendy, showing a fine appreciation for the nature of real estate early in her career. She obtained her real estate agent license in Southern California and kept it active the rest of her life, eventually serving on the Women's Council of Realtors, the Sonoma County Board of Realtors, as well as the California and National boards of Realtors. She followed her parents to Sonoma Valley in the early 1980s and, after a stint with Hugh and Nell Codding developing retail stores, she went to work at Keegan & Coppin Realty where she met her husband to be, Doug Del Fava. The two worked well immediately and became one of the top selling real estate teams in Sonoma County, a distinction they retained for all of their active partnership. A successful business relationship led to a successful personal partnership, and the two married in in 1990, with Doug raising Susan's daughter, Shannon Parker, and setting up a household in Kenwood. Susan is survived by her husband, Doug Del Fava, and daughter, Shannon Parker, her mother, Julia Gault (Santa Rosa), sister Kathy Anderson, and two nieces, Laurel and Jillian Anderson (Santa Rosa), sister-in-law Beverly Del Fava (Cotati), and her close friend Hank Myers (Santa Rosa). She was predeceased by her father, James Gault, a brother, Patrick Gault, and her parents-in-law Betty and Mario Del Fava. A memorial event will be held in early January at a date and time to be announced. Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation should do so at their favorite charity.
