Thomas Keogh Obituary

Father Thomas Keogh died peacefully on October 22, 2010 at Nazareth House, San Rafael. He was born November 8, 1914 in Portarlington, County Laois, Ireland. Following his primary and secondary education he worked for a few years. Then he entered the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate to pursue a possible vocation as a priest. Upon completion of his studies in philosophy and theology he was ordained to the priesthood on June 29, 1945. His first mission was in the Yukon Territory of Canada and then he taught in the Oblate of Mary Immaculate Seminary in Ottawa for 10 years. In 1965 he was assigned as a hospital chaplain in Southern CA and in 1967 became a part of the Diocese of Santa Rosa. He served as a pastor at Christ the King, McKinleyville 1967-72; Our Lady Queen of Peace, Clearlake 1972-77; St. Bernard's, Eureka 1977-79; Our Lady of Good Counsel, Fort Bragg 1979-80; and St. Elizabeth, Guerneville 1980-86. He retired from active ministry in 1986 but ministered as a chaplain for the Ursuline Sisters in Santa Rosa for a number of years. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Eugene, 2323 Montgomery Dr., Santa Rosa. He will be buried in Ireland. May he rest in peace. Father Keogh performed our marriage at St. Elizabeths, in Guerneville Ca, on July 20, 1985. He was a deeply spiritual man who brought us to tears many times with his heart felt sermons. We will always remember him in love...
