Wayne Humphrey Obituary

Wayne Humphrey, a businessman who became one of the largest suppliers of agricultural and industrial shipping containers in Northern California, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on March 29, 2012 in Cloverdale, CA. He was 82. Wayne was born on February 24, 1930 in Lewiston, ID, and moved to California in 1958. In 1964, Wayne started his Healdsburg plywood supply business, where he developed and patented a machine tool to apply rough sawn textures to plywood surfaces, and expanded into the fabrication and supply of agriculture and shipping containers. He later turned his attention to developing and managing commercial real estate. Wayne was a popular and well-known figure around the Redwood Empire. He served in many local organizations, including the Rotary, Masons, the Chamber of Commerce, the Cloverdale Citrus Fair Board, and the Healdsburg General Hospital Board of Directors. One of Wayne's greatest pleasures was serving the children of the community through the Boys and Girls Club, which he was instrumental in bringing to Cloverdale. Wayne was an avid golfer, and loved to travel the world with his best friend and wife of 63 years, Lorraine. In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by his daughters Susan Wayman of Los Altos Hills and Rhonda Hyver of Portola Valley; his sons Steve Humphrey of Santa Rosa and Bruce Humphrey of Cloverdale; his 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A private interment will be held at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston, ID. A memorial service will be held at the Healdsburg Community Church, 1100 University Avenue in Healdsburg, at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012. A reception will follow. The family would like to thank all those who gave us support throughout this ordeal, especially the Memorial Hospital hospice staff, whose love and kind words will never be forgotten. Wayne's family asks that your greatest gift to them would be to remember Wayne and to live life with his spirit of laughter, compassion and joy. Donations in his name should be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cloverdale.

Wayne was a wonderful person, always so full of energy and life. I can never think of our Boys & Girls Club without thinking of him because he was truly the guiding light behind it. My deepest sympathy to Lorraine and the entire Humphrey family. You are all in my prayers.
