William Van Aalst Obituary

Entered into rest September 5, 2010 in Santa Rosa, CA. Dearly beloved and cherished father of Jeannie E. Creager of Santa Rosa, CA and Larry A. Van Aalst of Rohnert Park, CA. Adored grandfather of Brian Creager of Cloverdale, CA, Tammy Creager- Bonney of Moscow, ID and Jason Creager of Hidden Valley Lake, CA. Also survived by five great grandchildren, one sister: Wilma Silva of Walnut Creek, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Oakland, CA, age 90 years. Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Aurore Van Aalst in 1997. Bill retired from the California Department of Forestry in 1982 and was a member of the Oakmont S. I. R.' s and served as the Past President of the Oakmont Kiwanis Club. He is a proud veteran, having served in the U. S. Navy during WWII as a Seabee. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed travel and 49er Football. He has been a resident of our community for the past 64 years. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the LAFFERTY & SMITH COLONIAL CHAPEL (4321 Sonoma Highway, Santa Rosa, CA 95409). Bill always had a wonderful smile on his face ... and he took the time to explain to many of us young CDF'er's the mysterious world of carpentry. One of the nicest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
