Earl Nicholas Hoffman

Died peacefully in his home at Sunrise Assisted Living on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 55 years, Dorothy, who we are sure, was waiting for him with open arms. Earl was born to John and Laura Hoffman on October 14, 1912 in Detroit, MI and was the first of four children. At Cass Technical High School, he excelled in Meteorology and Aeronautical Engineering. His love of meteorology led him to a 38 year career with the U.S. Weather Bureau. Throughout his life, Earl loved hiking, fishing, ice boating, camping with his family, mountain climbing. He also loved listening to music and dancing whenever he had a chance (which is how he met Dorothy), and teaching others about his hobbies and meteorology as well as building competitive scale model airplanes. Earl touched the lives of many people with his kindness and generosity. Earl will forever be remembered by his children, Arlene Eggers of Santa Rosa, CA, Wayne Hoffman of Baton Rouge, LA, Marsha Bergh and husband Gary of Houston, TX, Janet Biolo of Marquette, MI, and Debbie Hicks and husband Bob of Santa Rosa, CA, as a loving and caring father who was always there to offer advice and a warm hug. He will also be remembered as a kindly grandpa, to his eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. All of his friends and family, who were blessed to know him, will never forget how he touched their lives in so many ways. To be surrounded by his family and friends, was one of life's greatest joys for Earl. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Rosa Bible Church, 4575 Badger Road, Santa Rosa, CA.
