Beloved Father, Adored Grandfather, Proud Great Grandfather and cherished friend. On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 Walter, a Sonoma County resident, at the age of 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his immediate family. Walter was recently predeceased by his wife Doris of 65 years and preceded in death by his parents Archangela Sannazzaro Scovena, born in Refrancore, Asti, Italy and Walter Stewart Scacchi the 1st, of Sommersville, CA. Stationed on the USS Intrepid CV-11 Aircraft Carrier where he saw action in the Pacific as a plane spotter on the landing signal platform of the Mighty "I" from 1942 to 1945. You could see the glint in his eyes when he spoke of viewing and surviving the Kamikaze's crash landing on the deck of his ship. He was gratified to be acknowledged as part of the Greatest Generation. He met his challenges, never giving in or giving up. After the war, his career in San Francisco was in the Petroleum products business and thusly he retired from the State of CA as a Consumer Protection Sr. Investigator. In the Italian tradition, family and friends meant everything to him always. He loved breaking bread, sharing a meal and talking about memories. He was a past member of the Sons of Italy and the Fratellanza Club. He was a gentle and kind man who loved his family and respected his Italian heritage and he always had a hobby whether sculpting, sketching, using chalks or as a craftsman with his wood and steel lathe. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.
