Whether he was surfing, playing tennis, or enjoying classic rock radio on his iPad, Sandy was a person who loved life and lived it to the fullest. Born in Los Angeles on March 7, 1951 to Gwen and Simon Kronick, Sandy graduated from Hamilton High in 1969. In 1971, he moved up north to attend Sonoma State University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology and a teaching credential. In 1977, he met his wife Lynette when they were both substitute teaching at La Fiesta School, and they would have celebrated their 28th anniversary on July 7. Sandy began the long and winding road of his teaching career in Palos Cedros, returning to Santa Rosa in 1983, where he taught at Doyle Park for twenty years. In 2003, he transferred to Hidden Valley Satellite School, where he worked until his retirement on May 25 of this year. He held many fond memories of the kindergarten and first-graders whose lives he touched. Lynette and Sandy's sons, Zachary and Nicholas, were a constant source of pride and joy to him. One of his proudest moments was when his son, Zak, became an Eagle Scout, and also when he graduated from San Diego State last year. He was extremely proud of Nik for graduating from SRJC this spring and for being admitted to UC Santa Cruz this fall. His family meant the world to him. Sandy was active in his son's scouting endeavors, and he spent many years working with Troop 125 and running the Air Show parking. Vowing to pack as much into his life as he possibly could, Sandy focused his leisure time on surfing every weekend, playing tennis at Wikiup, and traveling. He and his family visited many countries including Italy, England, and Paris, where they learned about ancient cultures and explored famous cities. For their 25th Wedding Anniversary, Lynette and Sandy celebrated on a Mediterranean Cruise, visiting historical sites in Italy, Greece, and Egypt. Sandy's favorite place of all was Hawaii, and his surfing safaris led him to most of the islands. His favorite social activity closer to home was eating gourmet dinners at Bill and Shannon LaFranchi's house, which were always accompanied by wine, music, laughter, and intense rounds of Hearts. He thoroughly loved tennis and left the world with his racket in hand. In addition to Lynette, Zak, and Nik, Sandy is also survived by his brother Ken Kronick, his life-long friend, Alan Sternhill, and his beloved dachshund, Toby. His daughter, Chelsea, predeceased him. If desired, donations in Sandy's memory may be made to the Surfrider Foundation or to the Nicholas Kronick Scholarship Fund: c/o Redwood Credit Union, P.O. Box 6104, Santa Rosa, CA 95406 (Acct#6515KRON). Memorial services will be held at Daniels Chapel of the Roses on Saturday, June 16, at 2:00 p.m. (Hawaiian shirts encouraged). To quote one of his favorite groups, "And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make." Aloha, Sandy. You touched the lives of many, and the world is a little less bright today without your smile. Daniels Chapel of the Roses Funeral and Cremation Services (707)525-3730
