Died peacefully on August 10, 2012 at his Sebastopol, CA home. He was born on June 28, 1918 and raised in Tracy, California, graduating from Tracy High School. Fred was the son of a Southern Pacific Railroad engineer. Fred attended University of the Pacific, where he met Aline Durst, his wife of 70 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a Navigation Instructor for fliers at Merced Army Air Field, from 1942-1946. After his Air Force service, Fred continued to teach in Sonoma, Sebastopol and Santa Rosa School systems, retiring from Cook Junior High in 1978. He was Principal of Forestville Elementary School for many years. Fred's passion in life was singing with Sebastopol's Methodist Church Choir, Sonoma County Chorus and Northern California Chamber Choral. Fred and Aline enjoyed many oversea tours with the Chamber Choral Group, singing in many famous European Cathedrals, including Notre Dame. Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Duane and his wife Anne, and parents Roy and Florence Garrison. He is survived by his wife Aline and children, Susan Klinker and her husband Tom, and Donald Garrison and wife, JoAnn; and granddaughters; Jessica Klinker and husband Noah, Jade Garrison and partner Tina, Carla Cope and her husband Dan and Jamie Ann Garrison and great granddaughter Abigale Blu Wilson, and his beloved caregiver, Myna King. Donations may be given to the building fund of the Sebastopol United Methodist Church or to Heartland Hospice Services of Sebastopol. Memorial service will be held at the Sebastopol United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 25 at 2:00 p.m. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY- SEBASTOPOL, 829-5433.
