Kathleen Bryan McCrory passed away peacefully on December 7, 2012, in Petaluma, California. She was 64 years old. Her amazing grace and bravery as she faced the devastating losses that came with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) inspired everyone who met her. Kathleen was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 22, 1948, to Dr. Malvern Thornton Bryan and Ruth Grace Freund Bryan. She graduated from Central High School in Memphis in 1966 and Emory University in 1970 and earned a masters degree in library science from the University of Washington in 1986. She loved working as a medical librarian at Seattle Children's Hospital, from which she retired in 2010 after 23 years. She was an accomplished pianist, delighting friends and family with her playing, and a wonderful cook and baker; her pies were legendary. But first and foremost, she was a devoted mom to her two wonderful and adored children, Michael and Christy McCrory. Kathleen is survived by her children, who rearranged their lives to move to Petaluma to care for her as her illness progressed, her siblings Sally McGough (Phil) of Petaluma, Ruth Maupin (Layne) and John Gano Bryan of Memphis, and Mary Ellen Elston (Bob) of Gulfport, Florida, as well as nieces and nephews around the country and one grand-nephew. For the last year, Kathleen was in the loving care of the amazing people of Hospice of Petaluma, especially her beloved chaplain Betsy Hand, and her wonderful nurse Cynthia Clarkson. Also lovingly caring for Kathleen were Janet Mitchell of Rohnert Park and Ana Maldonado of Santa Rosa. A memorial service will be held at ADOBE CREEK FUNERAL HOME, 331 Lakeville St., Petaluma, CA 94952 on Thursday, December 20, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran Street, Petaluma, CA 94952, Seattle Children's Hospital, 4800 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105 or the ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW - Suite 1050, Washington, DC 20005.
